Laval St. Germain Confront Cancer Ocean Row 2016
Calgary adventurer Laval St. Germain has taken "adventure" to a whole new level. From climbing Mt. Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen, climbing and skiing Iraq's highest peek and holding the record for being the fastest to ever cross the North Atlantic Ocean solo...in a row boat - to name a few.

St. Germain is the keynote speaker at an event for Two Wheel View, a wonderful organization with a mission to provide youth development programs that use the bicycle. St. Germain is very familiar with this program as his youngest, Eric - who turned 16 this year, has been through their program. "Part of the program is working on bikes, building bikes right from scratch. Eric then participated in a 10 day bicycle tour from Montreal to Quebec City. Along the way they cycled various villages and worked in organic farms and volunteered in various communities along the way. And he loved it."

St. Germain explains, "Two Wheel View was started as a community organization and charity to promote youth development and social, health, environmental and cultural outcomes."

Through the Two Wheel View "Adventure Speakers Series" they ask the question, "What adventure changed your life?" St. Germain says, "There isn't one specific adventure that changed my life. But, I can tell you that even through these iconic trips I've done - from Everest without oxygen or rowing across the North Atlantic, or climbing in Nunavut to skiing in Iraq - I can tell you that some of my fondest memories are with the kids, riding our bikes. Namely, riding the Dempster Highway - one of Canada's prettiest roads from Dawson City, Yukon through to the Northwest Territories - with our two oldest kids, who were 11 and 13. To shorter bike trips through Alberta and B.C. with Eric."

Kids and youth are welcome to join St. Germain at his presentation on Saturday, December 9th. Tickets available here through Eventbrite. St. Germain hopes that after he speaks that people are inspired to step out of their comfort zones. He says, "I want kids to realize that they can do the same things that I've done." St. Germain expresses that he feels he's nothing special explaining, "I'm from a small town in Northern Alberta and had parents who pushed me and opened the doors for me to do this stuff." St. Germain encourages all of us to step away from the screen and go on some grand adventures. It doesn't have to be Everest, it doesn't have to be the North Atlantic Ocean, it just has to be you pushing yourself and realizing you have resiliency and confidence that you can bike up that big hill or carry that big load or fix that bike.
