The Brighter Side was born from a dream. It was a couple years after my brother James passed away. In this dream he suggested I do a magazine. A magazine that will lift spirits and help them find The Brighter Side.
James couldn't aways find the positive side of life. The first dream I had was three days after my brother passed. In that dream I said to him, "Where have you been? I thought you died?" He replied, "I'm more alive now than I've ever been." It was after that dream I realized that not everyone has the choice to wake up happy. Some people have chemical imbalances that don't give them the opportunity to know that life is worth living. Some people struggle everyday to wake up and live life to the fullest.
The second dream came a couple of years later. Wondering what I could do to understand people who suffer mental illness, my brother came to me in my dream and said, "Give them something worth living for. Share stories that make people smile. Share good news, great ideas and amazing people." From that moment I felt as though I needed a publication that was just that! So I started to design a magazine. Feeling overwhelmed with how to do that, a friend of mine said, "Instead of a magazine, why don't you do a blog. Share your stories online where there is very little cost and anyone can access it." And here we are 4 years later and 100,000 + visits to The Brighter Side YYC blog.
Thank you! Thank you for allowing us to lift your spirit and share Good News. We've shared ideas that are brilliant and ideas that just make you smile. Plus, we've introduced you to some amazing people! Now we would like to invite you to share! If you have good news, great ideas or know amazing people, *submit your story ideas! We want The Brighter Side to be a place where everyone can smile!
(*Note: Not all story submissions will be published on The Brighter Side Blog. Stories are subject to approval. NO COMPENSATION IS PAID FOR STORY SUBMISSIONS. BY SUBMITTING A STORY YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE VOLUNTEERING YOUR CONTENT WITHOUT THE EXPECTATION OF COMPENSATION.)
