The Brighter Side
I witnesses something incredible today. While having lunch at Humpty's on 25th Ave, downtown Calgary, a native man came into the restaurant. He approached my table and asked me if I had any change. Which I didn't. I don't usually carry cash these days. I pay by debit mostly. I tell him, "No, I'm sorry I don't have any cash." My heart sank as I don't mind giving change now and again.
He turned around and walked away. As he was heading towards the door, a kind woman asked him if he was hungry. He replied, "Yes." She then offered to buy him lunch. She motions the waitress to allow him to pick something to eat. Quietly he sits in a booth and waits for the waitress.
When the waitress arrives she's surprised he's sitting there. Not sure why. The kind woman tells her she'd like to buy him something to eat. Shortly after the manager arrives, just to make sure that everything is ok. The native man sits quietly while the manager asks him why he's still here.
THEN the second table in the section speaks up telling the manager that the kind woman wants to buy him lunch. They also tell the manager that the native man is not doing any harm. They tell the manager that he's just hungry.
Remarkable! Just when you thought all was bad in the world you see this incredible act of kindness. Before long he's enjoying a meal and thanks the woman for her offer. He enjoys his meal and the company in the room.
Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine they see all day.
Today was a good day.
