Homer Simpson ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

by Christina Rowsell
The Brighter Side

I like everyone else have seen friends posting on social media about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  Some are entertaining, some are annoying.  Annoying in the sense that it wasn't that entertaining.  I'm not tired of seeing or hearing the challenges as I know it really is for a great cause.  That is if you put your money where your mouth is.  The whole point of the challenge is to get people talking about ALS.

Here's where your money goes.  ALS has posted it on their website HERE

"ALS Canada is the leading non-profit health organization solely focused on fighting ALS. We lead a national ALS Research Program and we advocate to healthcare and government to gain better support for Canadians and their families living with ALS and to secure targeted research funding for ALS. We are currently working with the federal government to change the Compassionate Care Benefit (CCB) to better support families." ~ ALS Canada www.als.ca

The Ice Bucket Challenges have ignited the conversation!  So what is ALS?  Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body.

With that being said, even Homer Simpson got his dose of Ice Water!  Enjoy! Watch it HERE!

Remember The Laughter - Robin Williams

by Christina Rowsell
The Brighter Side

Remember the laughter.  And remember the man who made us laugh.  Robin Williams.  With sadness we all mourn the passing of a man with a remarkable talent of making people laugh, smile and forget about their problems.  Although he had many struggles with his own Mental Health issues I only hope that he also found those things in life that made him smile, if only for a moment.

Williams was very open about his own struggles with depression and addiction.  I had the opportunity to see Robin do his stand up in Calgary when he took part in a fund-raising event for the Owen Hart Foundation at the Jubilee Auditorium December 2012.  He was everything I expected him to be.  Funny, crazy and lovable.  You could tell, even from the bleacher seats, this man gives his whole heart in everything he does.

His LONG list of credits is a testament to the tireless work he did to bring his talents the big screen.  We all have our favourite movie(s) that Robin Williams shared with us.  My list includes, Good Morning Vietnam, Aladin, Mrs. Doubtfire, Bird Cage, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, and my favourite Patch Adams.  There are SO many more.

He will be missed.  But most of all he will be remembered for the laughter he gave to all of us.  Remember the laughter, as we remember the man that made us laugh ~ Robin Williams July 21, 1951 - August 11, 2014.  Rest in Peace.

What if I told you that YOU have the power to make yourself better?  Would you believe me?  If you are ready to heal and move forward, then pick up a copy of "The Power and Simplicity of Self-Healing" by Liberty Forrest.

I too am always looking to find ways to heal within.  We all have those "life moments" that make us who we are today.  But some of those "life moments" aren't always pleasant.  Those are the ones that make us stronger.

"For thousands of years, we have turned to medicine men, healers of all kinds through out the ages, unaware that each of us possesses the power to create - and to heal - our illnesses" suggests Forrest.

It's a read that revolutionizes the way we look at illness and healing.  In this book, Liberty Forrest helps you put the puzzle together, in the end revealing a simple canvas that will provide you with the tools to heal ourselves of ailments and illnesses.

Through her own escapades growing up dealing with an abusive and alcoholic environment, Liberty began having terrifying panic attacks as a young child.  By the time she reached adulthood, there were also issues with addiction, OCD and anorexia.

At the age of 20, Liberty's physical health was beginning to decline.  Years later, vowing to find a way to heal herself, believing that if other people have done it, then she could to it too.  AND SO CAN YOU!

We're all looking to find The Brighter Side of life, why not start HERE!
